Sample Findings in Proposal

Finding section refers to the results of the proposal or a research proposal.  It is written to inform the results of your study.

Findings:

  1. With regards to the reasons why students are taking up civil engineering courses, “the influence of parents and relatives” still gave weights (35%) which can be one of the reason of the 30-35% average annual passing rate of the course in the Civil Engineering Licensure Examinations.
  2. Civil Engineering graduates have bigger employment rate based on the 80% result of the survey.
  3. Employment data also shows that civil engineering graduates were able to land for a job in half-year after they graduated or take the board examinations.
  4. Only three (3%) of those employed civil engineering graduates landed their job through our job placement program.
  5. Sixty two (62%) percent of those employed graduates are working in their chosen degree which shows that the civil engineering program answers the needs of the industry.
  6.  Twenty-one percent (21%) of the employed graduates are working outside the country and that only 28% of those working within the country are serving the province of Bataan.
  7. Good thing is that the curriculum of the BSCE program of the university still relevant to the needs of the industry having 89% response from those employed graduates.

Sample Methodology

The GTS will be conducted by the proponent with selected Civil Engineering students under College of Engineering and Architecture of BPSU.  Selected students will be selected based on their interest to adopt the knowledge and interest in the said GTS.

The GTS involves orientations of the tracer study, reproduction of materials to be needed, distribution and retrieval  of GTS questionnaires, encoding of the data gathered, analyzing the data then making conclusions and recommendations based on the output of the GTS.

Important data regarding this study of BSCE graduates were gathered through a standard questionnaires provided by CHED.  Reference data with regards to the whereabouts of the graduates were requested to university registrar of the BPSU.

Respondents for this tracer study are only graduates of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from 2002-2008 wherein sample respondents were determined using the Solvin’s formula:

n = N / (1 + Ne2)
Where
n = Number of samples
N = Total number of population
e = Error tolerance of 7%

In order for the leader to get samples equal to 103/205, based on slovin’s formula, a group of 14 enumerators  were oriented and trained.  Enumerators were given assigned graduated depending on their preference.

Depending on the availability of respondents, enumerator’s where able to gather the target numbers of respondents in which data gathered were subjected to final analysis.

Simple statistical analysis and correlations were made to data which will give bearing to the study and at the same tome answered the objectives of this GTS.

Sample Introduction, Rationale, Objectives and Limitations

Introduction

Rationale

The Graduate Tracer Study (GTS) is aimed at generating data that shall be used by institutional and national policy makers .  GTS results can help the higher education institutions  (HEIs) in developing their curricula, deciding on program offerings, staffing patterns, faculty development and others.  At the national level, policy makers can be guided by GTS results in deciding on budget priorities, how to develop assistance programs can be developed for HEIs and how to redirect the course of higher education, among other (CHED-HEDP Graduate Tracer Study Training Program, May 23-24, Calamba, Laguna).

Truly, aside from the fact that one of the requirements of CHED for accreditations is to have a Graduate Tracer Study for HEIs, the CEA BPSU Civil Engineering program cannot deny that GTS is one area that need to be well enhanced and monitored for it to be more competitive and could easily adapt to the fasts changing socio-economic environment brought about by the new global order of competition, liberalization, privatization and globalization.  Especially now that the program is fast developing, its graduates must be will globalization.  Especially now that the program is fast developing, its graduates must be well monitored in order to determine its characteristics and how well it adapts to the current global order.

It this connection, faculties of CE program must assess its graduates for them to be able to determine and answers the needs of the society.  Thus, this GTS for BSCE program is being proposed.

Objectives of the GTS:

  1. To trace all graduates of BSCE program of BPSU from 2002-2008.
  2. To determine whether BSCE graduates are employed, underemployed and unemployed.
  3. To determine whether they are employed in relation with their profession or not.
  4. To establish linkage to the industry where they are employed.
  5. To assess if the BSCE program of BPSU-CEA still answers the needs of the society.

Limitations:

  1. The respondents are mostly from graduates residing in the province of Bataan that those residing outside the province where disregarded since they are comprised a very little percentage of the graduates.  Another reason is to lessen and save time and money.
  2. The percentage or error used in using the Slovin’s formula is Seven Percent (7%).
